F.A.Q.

🧒 What age groups are your workshops for?

We offer live, interactive poetry workshops for Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, and Key Stage 3 students.

Each session is carefully designed to suit the age group’s learning level, confidence, and curriculum needs.

📝 What do students do in the workshops?

Each workshop includes:

  • A high-energy poetry performance from published poet Mark Grist.

  • Short timed writing activities.

  • Live modelling of how to build a poem together.

  • Independent writing time and opportunities for students to share their work.

Sessions follow National Poetry Day’s annual theme — this year it’s "Play".

💷 How much does it cost?

  • KS1: Playing with Words – 45 minutes – £55

  • KS2: Metaphor Mischief – 55 minutes – £65

  • KS3: The Escape Plan – 55 minutes – £65

  • Bonus KS3/KS4 Poetry Performance – 30 minutes – FREE for all KS3/KS4 ticketholders

Each ticket provides you with a single unique access link for your class.

🎥 What platform are the sessions delivered on?

All sessions are delivered live via Zoom. You’ll receive a secure access link by email ahead of the event.

🔑 When do we get the access code for the performance?

All KS3 and KS4 ticketholders will receive the access code for the live-streamed performance via email 48 hours before National Poetry Day. We recommend you check your spam folder, in case the link has found its way there.

👩‍🏫 Who leads the workshops?

All workshops are led by Mark Grist — an award-winning poet, published author (Bloomsbury), former English teacher, and performer with over 80 million views online.

Mark specialises in helping students build confidence in creative writing and has delivered thousands of workshops in schools around the world.

🌍 Can schools outside the UK take part?

Absolutely. Schools across the world are welcome to join. Just be sure to check the time difference — all workshops run on UK time (BST).

👩‍🎓 Can we use the workshop with multiple classes?

Each ticket is a unique link for one class group to access the live-stream. We know some schools may want to combine classes — we recommend keeping groups class-sized so everyone can write comfortably, join in, stay focused, and get the most from the session.

With each Key Stage 2 or 3 ticket we’re offering a free live poetry performance — perfect for sharing National Poetry Day with a whole year group.

📹 Do we get a recording of the workshop?

Yes — you’ll receive a recording within 48 hours of the session. You're welcome to use it in your classroom for the rest of the term, whether to revisit the session or share it with other classes.

🧠 Are the sessions aligned with the curriculum?

Yes. All workshops are shaped by current literacy guidance, including the EEF’s recommendations and the UK English curriculum. They support vocabulary development, figurative language, spoken fluency and creative confidence.

🎫 Where do we buy tickets?

All tickets are sold through Eventbrite. When you click to book, you’ll be taken to our Eventbrite page to complete your purchase securely.

🗂️ Do we need to plan anything in advance?

No formal planning is required — it’s easy! Just make sure you’ve got audio and visual set up, a whiteboard the students can see, and access to Zoom.

Once booked, you’ll receive everything you need. We’ll also share a link to optional printed resources from Young Writers, which your students can write on during the session.

If you’d like to give your class a taster before the workshop, we recommend watching one of the short poetry videos on our Free Resources tab — a great way for students to get to know Mark before the live session.
